These are powerful words underlying a powerful image.
Who is going to make the frist commercial or public service ad? Motorola, Nokia, or the Democratic National Committe? Or some Vermont videographers who up load to YouTube?
Future of Vermont will not much look like a car, a culvert or a bend in the road. It will look like this [nb. He is holding up a Blackberry].

1. Come out with pink phones with bows on them. Chicks eat this stuff up. Similar to the advice we gave Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) about the “Pink Dollar“. You don’t even have to make the phones work, just make them pretty and expensive then seed them to Jennifer Aniston and Gisele or whoever is on the cover of US Weekly.
2. Continue with your rebranding of

3Com Announces 3Com 3108 Wireless Voice Over IP Telephone. 3Com announced a new wireless, Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based IP phone that provides enterprise users with greater mobility by delivering full-featured Voice over IP (VoIP) communications on a wireless LAN (802.11b/g) infrastructure.
The 3Com 3108 Wireless Phone enables users to roam a building or campus environment and stay connected with customers, partners and co-workers while utilizing VoIP, wireless email and data applications.
Just attended a workshop on wireless mobility sponsored by Verizon. Speakers from Blackberry, Verizon, and Microsoft, gave 30 minute presentations on how mobile devices can enhance productivity.
Todd Eckman from Lockheed Martin gave the keynote speech during the box lunch that was provided. Part of his presentation included a video "commercial" showing what Lockheed Martin is doing with wireless technology. It was especially interesting since many of the examples were from Hanford, the local DOE instalation.
The Tri-Cities does not yet have high-speed 'EvDO' access but the Verizon rep said plans are to have it available by the first of the year. Even with just 'regular' mobile wireless internet access, anyone whose job requires them to spend alot of time out of the office can remain productive. The Verizon rep was quick to point out that with a verizon data card, "you are the hotspot."
I don't normally directly cover local news, but, through the generosity of the Greater Houston Partnership, I was able to attend Mayor White's State of the City luncheon today as a member of the media (we get the tables in the very, very back corner). Overall, I liked just about everything I heard. I took a lot of notes, and plan on passing most of them along (one of the perks of a blog vs. the limitations of TV and print news).
I think Mayor White remains as popular as ever, but he does have one issue. He's one of those Mayors trying to get the city to do all the less visible "little things" right that add up to one well-managed city (especially when it comes to infrastructure), rather than focus on big-PR "ribbon-cutting" events/accomplishments. That's absolutely the right thing to do (Lanier was like that too). The problem is, when you talk to people, it's clear they like him, but they have trouble naming the things he's done, other than accept the Katrina evacuees (now considered a mixed blessing). This will be a bigger problem if he decides to run for higher office in 2010, like governor. I think he must've heard the same things I have, because the speech was very clear and forceful in articulating his accomplishments at the halfway point of his expected six years in office before term limiting out.
The United States Army has awarded Nokia a contract to build a WCDMA 3G/HSDPA network. The deal will allow the Army to evaluate potential applications for 3G wireless technologies for defense purposes.
Under the contract, Nokia will supply a WCDMA/HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) network of equipment and services. The network will be installed at one of the Army’s Research and Development Centers.
WCDMA technology is a cost effective way to upgrade network infrastructure leading to increased network capacity that supports offering advanced mobile services. Nokia has a strong global position as a radio network provider, with 66 WCDMA 3G customers to date.
ASUS has announced its new line of notebooks, the ASUS A8Jr. The new line is notable for the inclusion of ATI’s Mobility Radeon X2300. The X2300 is one of the first mobile video cards to have DirectX 10 support.
According to ASUS:
“There is an ever-increasing demand for higher graphic processing power and crisper graphics for entertainment and applications alike,” says David Cummings, director of marketing, Graphics Products Group, AMD. “Our answer to that demand is the X2300 GPU. This GPU utilizes patented technology to increase processing power and provide the user with smooth, realistic hi-resolution graphics.”
