LG BD300 Will Have Access to Netflix Streaming
This past week, LG Electronics launched the LG BD300 Network Blu-ray Disc player, a DVD player that will play both Blu-ray and standard definition discs, with the integrated ability to access and play back Netflix instant-streaming video content.
LG said that its BD300 Network Blu-ray disc player, due this fall would be capable of connecting to the Netflix online movie streaming service. The feature will be offered free of charge. However, a Netflix subscription is required to access the database of about 12,000 movies.
Users will be required to register for a Netflix subscription membership, allowing its traditional mail-delivered disc rentals and now streaming video services via a broadband connection. The player also features LG's BD Live functionality that provides bonus content, real-time extras, and special picture-in-picture access for selected Blu-ray discs.
LG digital media division marketing and sales VP Allan Jason said the third-generation Blu-ray player will ship in the fall at a suggested retail price range “well under . It will be competitively priced with the other new Blu-ray Disc players coming to market.” The LG announcement is Netflix’s second huge coup this month, following news that the service will be available through Xbox 360 Live Gold, a subscription based service.
