A New Look to Your Space on MySpace, Promises MySpace

Current Issue

The News Corp. owned social-networking site, MySpace, has revealed its plans to begin remodeling its homepage, simplifying how users navigate the site and design their personal profiles.

In addition to revamping the home page, MySpace is also changing the profile editor to make it easier for members to design and decorate their profile pages. The profile pages will also undergo renovations.

Search capabilities are being improved, for instance, with results on other users, music, video, the general MySpace site and the Web at large sorted into separate tabs. The most relevant tab will be automatically highlighted, and searches on other users will include the ability to filter by location, gender or age and invite them to be friends.

"This is a pretty big overhaul for us," said Steve Pearman, MySpace's senior vice president of product strategy. "We took a step back and looked at some of the key parts of the site."

With the latest developments made to the site, MySpace is being compared with Facebook and other social networking sites. Also with MySpace TV, YouTube and MySpace are in direct competition with each other. In addition, the video player is gaining new controls and support for Flash 9 full-screen mode.

Starting this week, MySpace users will see the first phase of the redesign, which has been in the works for the past six months. Facebook is also busy these days toiling away at a major redesign of its member profile pages, which it has previewed and which it hopes to roll out at some point this month.
